About South Miami
South Miami serves the small city of the same name and the residential streets of Coral Gables and Pinecrest that press in around it. Both lines run through, so trains arrive roughly every eight minutes on a weekday and you take whichever comes first. Government Center is about fifteen minutes north; the airport is around thirty, with a change at Earlington Heights required at weekends.
What draws many riders here is the garage — 1,774 spaces, among the largest on the system — which turns the station into a serious park-and-ride for drivers coming off US-1 and the neighborhoods either side of it. Art in Transit work is built into the station as well. Unusually for a suburban stop, there is somewhere to go on foot the moment you leave the gates: Sunset Drive and the walkable center of South Miami start right outside.

Orange and Green Line trains both call here on weekdays, so the wait is roughly half what either line shows on its own. At weekends only the Green Line runs through.

Downtown South Miami begins at the station door. Sunset Drive and the streets off it hold restaurants, cafés, bars and independent shops, and the Sunset Place complex is the landmark on the corner where Sunset Drive meets US-1. South Miami Hospital, part of Baptist Health, lies a short distance away, and the leafy residential streets of Coral Gables and Ponce-Davis spread north and east. The University of Miami campus is one stop north at University station, which is where most students get off, so the crowd here skews toward residents and commuters.
