Getting through the gate
Three steps, and the first one is the only one that catches people out: you buy before the gates, not after.
Get an EASY Card
From the vending machines in any station lobby, a Transit sales outlet or online. A paper EASY Ticket is fine for a couple of trips; the plastic card is what you want if you will ride all week.
Load value or a pass
Add pay-as-you-go dollars, or load a 1-Day, 7-Day or 1-Month pass. The machines take cards and cash and are inside the paid-area entrance, before the gates.
Tap at the gate
Hold the card flat on the reader until the gate opens. Coming from a Metrobus, tap the same card and the transfer is free — two different taps are charged as two fares.
How to pay
Four ways in through the gate. If you ride more than once or twice, an EASY Card is the one to get — it is the only method that gives you the free bus-to-rail transfer.
EASY Card
A reusable, tap-to-ride plastic card. Load it with pay-as-you-go value or a pass at any station vending machine, at a Transit sales outlet or online. Free transfers only work when you tap the same EASY Card across bus and rail.
EASY Ticket
A paper equivalent for occasional trips or visitors — buy it from the same station machines and load one or more rides onto it. Cheaper to obtain than a plastic card if you are only in town a few days.
Contactless
Tap a contactless bank card, phone or smartwatch straight on the gate reader. No card to buy — the standard $2.25 fare is charged to your bank.
GO Miami-Dade Transit app
Buy and store fares on your phone and show or tap them at the gate. The app also gives live arrivals and the official trip planner.
Passes, and who rides free
If you are here for a week or living in Miami, a pass works out cheaper than tapping every trip. And two Miami-Dade programs let a lot of residents ride for nothing at all.
Passes for regular riders
- 1-Day and 7-Day passes — unlimited rides on Metrorail, Metrobus and Metromover for the period.
- 1-Month pass: $112.50 full fare, $56.25 reduced.
- All passes load onto an EASY Card or EASY Ticket at any station vending machine.
Pass prices are set by Miami-Dade Transit and can change — check the operator for the current fare table.
Who rides free or reduced
- Golden Passport — seniors 65+ and Social Security beneficiaries ride free with a Golden Passport EASY Card.
- Patriot Passport — honorably discharged veterans who are Miami-Dade residents, within the income limit, ride free.
- Reduced fare — $1.10 for other riders with disabilities, Medicare card holders and students, with a Reduced Fare EASY Card.
These need a special EASY Card you apply for once, with proof of eligibility. Apply through Miami-Dade Transit.
Free transfers
Moving between Metrobus and Metrorail costs nothing extra, in either direction — you are only ever charged one fare for the whole journey. The catch is that you must tap the same EASY Card each time, within the transfer window; two separate contactless taps count as two fares. Metromover, the downtown people mover, is free to everyone with no card at all.

Yes. Contactless bank cards, phones and watches work at the gates, alongside the EASY Card, EASY Ticket and the GO Miami-Dade Transit app. Note that contactless does not give you the free transfer that an EASY Card does.
